The Alexander Art Academy’s Annual Exhibition presents a collection of artworks by a community of artists under the mentorship of Marc Alexander. This event is both a celebration of their creativity and accomplishments, as well as an opportunity to reflect on the skills and knowledge they have gained. The displayed pieces showcase a wide range of styles, techniques, and mediums, with each artist focusing on their unique style, talent, and artistic preferences to create their finest work.
2025 marks our first themed exhibition and will be showcased at the Iziko Learning Centre at Groot Constantia wine estate. The exhibition will also feature a selection of artwork by art teacher and mentor Marc Alexander.

The chosen theme is Oceana – Reflecting Coastal Heritage. The word “Oceana” brings to mind images of the ocean, marine life, expansive seascapes, and coastal environments. It evokes the beauty and mystery of the sea, with its rolling waves, sandy shores, underwater worlds, and rich ecosystems. Each artist is encouraged to draw inspiration from contemplating the rich cultural and natural heritage that surrounds coastal life.

Opening Event
The Oceana – Reflecting Coastal Heritage showcase, hosted by the Alexander Art Academy in collaboration with the Iziko Learning Centre, officially opened on Saturday, 1 February, to an enthusiastic audience. The event saw an impressive attendance of approximately 350 guests, marking a highly successful launch.
This professionally curated exhibition features over 200 artworks by 70 talented artists, each contributing unique perspectives on the rich coastal heritage of the Western Cape. The showcase has attracted a steady stream of visitors, creating an inspiring and uplifting experience for both artists and attendees. Additionally, it has received an overwhelmingly positive response on social media, particularly on Facebook and Instagram, further expanding its reach and impact.
A key aspect of the exhibition is its educational component. Informative write-ups accompany select artworks, providing insights into their subjects, which include:
- Important coastal landmarks
- Capetonian indigenous fishing communities
- Western Cape fauna and flora
- Marine life and kelp forests
- Endangered wildlife
In addition to this stunning display of local talent, a live workshop demonstration by Marc Alexander is scheduled for Saturday, 15 February, and Saturday, 22 February, offering an engaging educational experience for visitors.
The Oceana – Reflecting Coastal Heritage showcase continues to celebrate and highlight the significance of our coastal environment, fostering a deeper appreciation for its cultural and ecological importance. The exhibition remains open to the public until 26 February and promises to be a memorable experience for all who attend.
