  Exhibition: Oceana – Reflecting Coastal Heritage Artist: Grant Mills Title: Bo-Kaap Caszh II Medium: Oil on Canvas Size: 40cm by 51cm   The Bo-Kaap’s origins date back to the 1760s when numerous “huurhuisjes” were built and leased to slaves by Dutch colonists. By law, all houses had to be white, but when this law was lifted, freed slaves were allowed to purchase the properties and promptly painted them in the bold, bright colours we know and love today.
